My journey as the first disabled intern
We spoke to Bagus Bharata, who is the first person with disability to graduate from an internship program in Berca Schindler.
We just launched a supported internship programme which allows young people with learning disabilities to work with us.
As an internship graduate, Bagus told us how the programme improved his skills and made a difference to his life. He shared insights for the company on what can be done to support more people having disabilities with meaningful employment and career.
“It has been two years since I work closely with people since the COVID-19 pandemic. I would not be where I am today without the working experience as an intern with Schindler and my confidence has grown so much,” said Bagus. “This programme has taught me to work independently as well as in a team, and my problem-solving skills have improved enormously,” he added.
Bagus is a great example of how people with disability can contribute and provide value to the company, and also to build a fulfilling working life and career for himself. It is indeed a great honour and pleasure for Berca Schindler to have initiated an internship programme such as this, as we pave ourselves to have a more diverse and inclusive workforce in the future.
